Mayor Bloomberg’s letter to ITSS:

Message of an ITSS friend after the Turkish-Jewish joint event to commemorate the heroism of Turkish diplomats during WW2; November 2005
“Last night at the consulate was great. It was so moving and I was truly touched by the joint Turkish-Jewish efforts to put the program together. Thank you for inviting me. I have always looked at the holocaust as such a devastating event for the Jews and embarrassment for the world as a whole. So much of my family was killed and it is still today a very sensitive issue for us. But last night I saw that among all the destruction and darkness there was a little light provided by the Turkish community….it is really something and I am so proud to be connected to such good people. In my religion it is said that if you save one life it is like you saved the world as that one life carries on and on…..you should be proud to come from a country who could not stand idly by like the rest of the world.”
A ‘Thank you’ message from Birsen Teyze. March 2005
You make us proud, please continue the great work. Thank you, thank you a hundred times thank you.
